Amshera means Respected Sister in Dari. This name was given to Angie by Afghan neighbors she met in Fort Worth, TX.
Angie Kraus is a retired educator who saw a need and started working to help. When the US left Afghanistan in 2021, many Afghan families who had worked with US troops and supported efforts by Humanitarian agencies were endangered as the Taliban took over the country.
Placement agencies welcomed these refugees in Fort Worth, and Angie started as a volunteer. As she got to know the families, her world was expanded, and she wanted to share good news and meet needs. As she shared the needs, God provided amazingly through many friends, family, neighbors, and churches. Amshera was formed.
Deuteronomy 10:19 says “You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.”
In Matthew 25:35 Jesus says, “I was a stranger and you took me in.”
Amshera is now in touch with more than 500 Afghan families in Fort Worth, and other parts of the US.
Initially families needed things for their homes, hygiene, furniture, sewing machines, car seats, pressure cookers, and dishes. Their needs are slightly different after four years, and Amshera loves the opportunity to meet families in need.
